Description
Four fine collectible trinket boxes made by Porcelaine de Paris for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. These lovely, French boxes are in four different shapes and measure approximately 4 x 3 1/2 by 1 1/4 inches. Each box comes with its own fold-out paper certificate with additional historic background on the houses and their owners. These boxes are made in a limited edition of 2,500 and each box is individually numbered as shown in the photos.Cliveden (1763): country seat of Benjamin Chew and center of the American Revolutionary Battle of Germantown, Pennsylvania, October 4, 1777. The interior of this box features a painted silhouette portrait of Benjamin Chew and the facade of his home, Cliveden.
Decatur House (1818 - 1819) Washington, D.C., designed by Benjamin Latrobe, on commission from Stephen Decatur, American Naval Hero of Four Wars, Headquarters of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The interior of this box features a painted portrait of Stephen Decatur and a scene of the ship Philadelphia.
Lyndhurst, a Gothic Revival Mansion on the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, designed in 1838 for General William Paulding by Alexander Jackson Davis who designed additions for George Merritt in 1864-65, purchased 1880 by Jay Gould. The interior of this box features a painted portrait of Anna Gould, Duchess of Talleyrand - Perigord, and an image of Merritt's Folly.
The Shadows-on-the-Teche, New Iberia, Louisiana (1831 - 1834), the town house of David Weeks, a plantation owner. The property remained in the Weeks family for five generations.The interior of this box features a painted portrait of Lily Weeks and a landscape view of Bayou.
