Description
Description:
My son is a carpenter so I easily fall in love with these hand-made pieces.
This is a lovely box, circa 1950s, made by C.H. Atkins from Viola, Delaware. Yippee, American made.
One wouldn't guess the age by the condition, but I've seen other work of his that sold and is dated 1950.
The wood is mahogany. It has mixed wood inlaid on the band, and has the initials M.I.O. inset in the center.
There is a brass or copper tag on the back noting the maker.
There is a little tray inside that slides above whatever may be below.
The inside is lined with green felt. It was probably a men's jewelry box.
Measures just short of 14” wide, just short of 5”deep and 3-5/8” tall.
I had to remove the tacks on the bottom as there were only three.
Condition
:
I've kept moisturized with Liquid Gold.
I've used on for show and haven't put anything inside myself.
I've brushed out the inside. The felt is not stained, but still has little dust in side.
The wood is in excellent condition.
